Dean has been a member of NALI since 2008 and in June 2009 completed the process and examination for the designation of Certified Legal Investigator (CLI - www.NALI.com/cli.php). He presently serves on the CLI Committee for Region 6 (Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and Idaho). He is also a regular contributor to "The Legal Investigator" with Forensic Focus, the official quarterly journal of NALI.

Dean has been a member of NCISS since 2008. He has served as an interim regional director and the membership committee. He is presently the Regional Director 5A (Colorado, Arizona, Wyoming and Nebraska). Dean has contributed to both the monthly eReport newsletter and "The Report" official bi-annual journal of NCISS.

Dean and Karen have been members of CDITC since 2011. Both are Certified Criminal Defense Investigators (CCDI - http://cditctraining.com/certificationawards.html). Dean provides training in medicolegal death investigation for the CCDI trainees and is a Faculty Advisor for Forensic Investigations.

Dean has been a member of WAD since 2010 and was appointed in October 2011 as one of the North America / USA Ambassadors. Although AFI-LLC has not directly investigated internationally to date, they have assisted other WAD members on international cases and are prepared to travel internationally and consult on international cases.

Dean and Karen joined NDIA in October 2011. NDIA focuses on criminal defense and is comprised of criminal defense investigators, primarily federal and state public defender offices, and private sector investigators.

Dean has been a member of NAME since 2003, as an Associate Investigator / Affiliate Consultant (for non-medical positions in medicolegal death investigation). AFI maintains an expert affiliation with Stephen J. Cina, MD (www.AutopsyReview.org) as the consulting forensic pathologist.

Dean has been a member of IAI and the Rocky Mountain chapter (www.RMDIAI.org) since 2003. His primary interest has been in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Photography and Fingerprint Comparison and Identification, as well as decedent identification.

Dean and Karen and volunteer consultants with fellow veteran investigators and consultants. Each week a show presents one or two unsolved homicide cold cases. Some are equivocal - wherein there is information that the manner of death may have been incorrectly ruled based upon new or overlooked evidence, and/or the suspect is still at-large. Mensa USA (www.us.mensa.org)
American Mensa is the largest chapter under Mensa International. To qualify for Mensa, a score in the top 2 percent of the general population on an accepted standardized intelligence test is required. Dean is joined by fellow CDITC Faculty Member and CCDI, Brad Perron, as a fellow member.
